If you wanna just draw her and not read this giant wall of text, please consider the following!
-Personality: Naive, softhearted, excitable, dull, scaredy-cat, forgetful, determined, allocentric, conciliatory, conscientious, dependable, approachable, trustworthy
-She has a halo but it's only visible to the most innocent of youth and the person she's currently devoted to. Otherwise, most people will not see the halo so you don't have to draw it if you don't want to!
-Her wings are inspired by Loggerhead Shrike birds, they don't get as dark/black as their feathers but that's what the general feather and wing structure are based on. The wings are also optional if you don't want to draw them.
-The promise ring is a gift from her betrothed, Dmitri (there's a small doodle of him linked below), and I would prefer that you draw it on her if you do draw her!
-The gem on the dagger acts like a button to activate the arming mechanism which basically adds functional length to the weapon and looks glowy.
When will I get better alliterations, I had such a hard time coming up with anything for her and it's going to be even more difficult with the remaining characters from this story. Kinda wanna say fuck it and just give them more accurate titles but I'VE MADE MY BED, ETC.
Ok so, I'm really excited to post this. It's the reference sheet for my FIRST EVER character! It's way way way overdue! I haven't even drawn her in.. a long time! And back then I didn't do ref sheets for anyone! I don't think I'm confident enough to post my decade or more old art of her to compare though ahahah wow it's bad..
This is Uriko Jaeta, a principality (or guardian angel, in laymen's terms) from The Eye of Maelstrom, my main lame story. You can download for the full-full view! Let me know if the colors look weird, I'm so paranoid the colors will be off since I've been switching computer displays so much :<
Background: Uriko's childhood was largely happy, as she spent a lot of time with her family (mother, father, older brother), and her best friends Dmitri Fauth and Ariadne Carini. She was particularly close to her mother, a principality, and was often coddled by her, much to her father's chagrin. Much of her early youth was spent vacationing with the Jaeta family to resort planets for weekend-long picnics, and she lived her life carefree. She aspired to be like her mom, Diana; who was as warm, dedicated, and strong as they came. Unfortunately, during one of their weekends away, Diana was kidnapped by a powerful stranger, and the young Uriko and brother Storm (no ref) could do nothing to stop him. Bastian, their father, was not nearby when it happened and was too late to stop his wife from being taken, and almost never speaks of that day. The rest of her childhood is mostly a blur of letting her brother cry on her shoulder while very privately grieving her lost mother.
Once she came of age, she is officially ranked as a principality, a bittersweet victory as she takes over where Diana left off, still feeling lost without her guiding light. Her friends and family had grown distant in the last several generations. The day she is assigned her first "protectee," the person she is chosen to protect (the first is always assigned, afterwards the principality may choose their own), Bastian makes a political (and genetic) deal with the Fauth family that Dmitri and Uriko will wed when they're older. The pair don't consider it to be that serious as they're still very young and have extremely long lifespans ahead of them, and choose to remain close friends and let their relationship bud on its own. Angels have been vanishing quite frequently as she matures, causing her to become convinced that the missing angels, including Diana, are victims to a conspiracy, and persuades Dmitri and Ariadne to help her investigate.
Years later, her first protectee is killed in a horrific attack on their home city, by what she can only describe as monsters. It is there that she meets Lloyd Barnett , who has to do some serious convincing to get her to leave her dead companion. After a few chance struggles together, they decide they'll stick together while it remains convenient. They don't really get along but they tolerate each other and have been chumming it up more and more!
Personality:(-) Naive, softhearted, excitable, dull, scaredy-cat, forgetful (+) Determined, allocentric, conciliatory, conscientious, dependable, approachable (Neutral) Trustworthy.
Uriko is very kind and willing to give almost anybody a chance or two, and her trusting and/or naive nature can be quite the hindrance. Always seeing the good in people (realistic or potential), sometimes she refuses to believe anyone ever harbors ill-will. This annoys Lloyd. It makes him sigh. No one wants to hear that, but she's learned to tune it out. That being said, she's an easy target for con men and scammers, and this is why she shouldn't talk to strangers. She can be excitable and as a consequence, she's also easily frightened. Monsters, jumpscares, and bugs are the top three things that will scare her out of her wits. Sometimes she needs a bit of a push when things get too intense, but once she gets going, it can be hard to stop her. Uriko is extremely determined and will go to great lengths for personal goals or to help someone in need.
Her halo is only visible to the most innocent people and the person she's currently devoted to, otherwise it's fully incognito.
She has a pair of wings that are loosely based on a Loggerhead Shrike's wings that may or may not be capable of carrying her weight in flight.
Uriko wears no bra! I was going to upload it without the dumb Lloyd-face-censors but I didn't like the way her boobs looked and couldn't get it right after about 15 tries so I'll leave that to your imagination.
The promise ring is from Dmitri, but she doesn't get it until later in the story which is why it's only pictured in her full gear.
The gem of her dagger is basically a button that she can press which will activate an "arming" mechanism for it, essentially it just adds functional length to the dagger and looks glowy and distracting. Also she's left handed. For whatever reason, drawing the dagger armed from the outside view didn't click in my head so I flipped it and drew her hand holding it from the inside. It still looks the same from either side, though. Sorry 8^(
Okay I'm sure I'm forgetting a whole lot of things but I can't think of what they are so you know the drill, 1000 edits incoming!
Thanks for reading!
I love all the fantasy accents to her design!
also you do some really nice object designs, i'm way behind on that stuff! @ @
I was just going to base the shape off the wings but then I was like nah let's go all out and went with the color palette as well c:
Thank you uwu I always worry my objects and props and stuff will look stupid but it means a lot to me that you think they're nice!
Just practice! Or make a lot of characters who have a lot of objects LOL
If ya don't like how it comes out, you don't have to post it anywhere and you can keep working on it in private but I'd be hype to see some items designed by you
